3。5 stars - cute short read - doesn’t require a ton of brain power but excellent feel good quick read

This was a good book! I really liked the premise and it kept me entertained! It was hard to tell who I was rooting for: Hugo or Jake。 The protagonist, Daphne, feels like she lacks maturity, even though she’s in her late 20s。 The author lost me in the last 1/4 with all the existentialism, I was just here for the chick flick。 It’s worth reading, but I’m not telling everyone to run out and buy it immediately。 I just reviewed Expiration Dates by Rebecca Serle。 #NetGalley[NetGalley URL]

This was underwhelming and predictable, but it is a very quick read if you’re in a slump and need something easy to get into。

UNEXPECTED…。This is a great story! The search for oneself in the midst of life。 When you finish this book, you will look back on your life and ask yourself if you led your life the way your predicted or did you live your life because of your predictions。 Many thoughts when you turn that last page。Insightful, great characters and the unexpected。 I would highly recommend this book。 Rebecca Serle, my new favorite author。

It was the perfect light reading book to start Spring Break! I was a little shocked by the turn of events the last 100 pages。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Picked this book up without knowing anything about it, just the blurb had intrigued me。 It did take me a few chapters to understand the flow of the timeline in this book, but once I understood it, I enjoyed it more。 An interesting premise to begin with, having notes that dictate how long you have with your potential romantic partner。 But what I liked about this was that it wasn’t even the main focus of the book in a way。 There was no explanation or drive to figure out why, or how they got there。 Picked this book up without knowing anything about it, just the blurb had intrigued me。 It did take me a few chapters to understand the flow of the timeline in this book, but once I understood it, I enjoyed it more。 An interesting premise to begin with, having notes that dictate how long you have with your potential romantic partner。 But what I liked about this was that it wasn’t even the main focus of the book in a way。 There was no explanation or drive to figure out why, or how they got there。 Nothing。 It just was。 And it honestly worked for the theme of the book。It’s simple, romantic, and introspective。 Really pretty way to think about how life goes, and looking back at previous relationships because this book got me thinking about my own。 Adding her own major health problems on top of mysterious notes? That really added depth in life。I really thought Daphne would end up with Jake。 It definitely made me feel heartbroken for him, the author wrote that scene near the end perfectly, it tugged at my heart strings。 But I almost love that because life isn’t perfect either, so having a book end that way, with the character you were set up to believe she’d end up with, was an interesting direction。 But you also felt for her friend/ex Hugo, and it almost makes up for the hurt you feel for Jake。 That last chapter really wrapped it up nicely。 My copy was a B&N exclusive (which, honestly, I’m not pleased with the fact that chains are doing exclusives for BOOKS。 Whyyyy??) and came with bonus content。 It really did not add anything extra, just a look into a weekend for Daphne。 So at least other readers aren’t missing out (looking at you SJM… I had to read pdf files for bonus chapters that actually really pertained to the main story and characters!!)Anyway, all in all, a short read (for me), but it really was a gentle, soft, romantic read。 5 stars for me since really enjoyed my time reading。 。。。more

I really liked this。 A feel-good read, but with some depth。 I like the way Rebecca Serle plays with time in her novels (The Dinner List, In Five Years)。 This started out as, almost, just a silly rom-com。 Then there was a twist。 All-in-all, a good read。 Took me just over a day to finish it。"I often wonder what our responsibility is to other people, how much we owe them。 Whose job is it to look out for our own happiness。 Us, or the people who love us? Serle doesn’t disappoint! Her stories pull at my heart strings and make me feel - sometimes the things I am trying very hard to avoid feeling。 This one is no exception。

This is the best fiction book I have read so far in 2024! Such a creative premise and was just a fantastic book!

great story kind of hanging at the endI think I’m one of those people that need a definitive ending to books。 While some could say this was definitive。 I feel as though I want a little more。 That being said the story itself was really good, the question of what choices would we make if we knew that love had a deadline。 What different choice would you make。 How do you go about living your life with the idea that you might not have a lot of time or even choices in things。 I’m not sure what I feel great story kind of hanging at the endI think I’m one of those people that need a definitive ending to books。 While some could say this was definitive。 I feel as though I want a little more。 That being said the story itself was really good, the question of what choices would we make if we knew that love had a deadline。 What different choice would you make。 How do you go about living your life with the idea that you might not have a lot of time or even choices in things。 I’m not sure what I feel about this book, but I did really like it。 I will be thinking about it for a little while too, so what more could you really want。 Other than a more specific ending。 。。。more

I didn't know Rebecca Serle had a new release, but when I saw it on the shelf I grabbed it because I LOVED "In Five Years"。 This was such a disappointing follow up。 The idea was cool, but the magical realism element was never fully explored, and the fact that she threw in a major health diagnosis when it wasn't needed? Just so weird。 I kept waiting for her to connect the dots between knowing how much time she had in relationships vs not knowing how long she will live with a heart condition, but I didn't know Rebecca Serle had a new release, but when I saw it on the shelf I grabbed it because I LOVED "In Five Years"。 This was such a disappointing follow up。 The idea was cool, but the magical realism element was never fully explored, and the fact that she threw in a major health diagnosis when it wasn't needed? No thanks。 It fell so flat。 Skip this one。 。。。more

4 stars but this being less than 4 seemed too low so I rounded up。 I love the magical realism she provides but also WOW, I should’ve known better she’d make it a surprisingly emotional ride around halfway through and she didn’t disappoint。 I really enjoyed this read

Oh。 My。 Word。 I read this in one single setting。 It was a short read but it had my heart melting like a stick of butter in the microwave。 I all ready adored her book One Italian Summer as it opened my eyes to the magical realism。 Serle writes a unique love story。 Hugo and Daphne shared such a great friendship I couldn't help but keep my fingers crossed for the happy ever after ending。 I loved the way Serle developed Daphne。 The tale is not twisty or thrilling, but it still kept me invested with Oh。 My。 Word。 I read this in one single setting。 It was a short read but it had my heart melting like a stick of butter in the microwave。 I all ready adored her book One Italian Summer as it opened my eyes to the magical realism。 Serle writes a unique love story。 Hugo and Daphne shared such a great friendship I couldn't help but keep my fingers crossed for the happy ever after ending。 I loved the way Serle developed Daphne。 The tale is not twisty or thrilling, but it still kept me invested with the fun & lightness of it。 Overall, this one left me with a renewed appreciation for the unpredictable beauty of love!!! I love Rebecca Searle’s books。 Period。 That’s it。 So it should come as no surprise that I love this one。 The premise hooked me right from the beginning。 The is another winner from one of my favorite authors。 Daphne receives notes。 She has been receiving these notes since the 5th grade。 The notes simply have a name and a length of time。 This is how every relationship that Daphne has had her whole life progresses。 Until now - she receives a note with just a name - no time frame。 The name is Jake a I love Rebecca Searle’s books。 Period。 That’s it。 So it should come as no surprise that I love this one。 The premise hooked me right from the beginning。 The is another winner from one of my favorite authors。 Daphne receives notes。 She has been receiving these notes since the 5th grade。 The notes simply have a name and a length of time。 This is how every relationship that Daphne has had her whole life progresses。 Until now - she receives a note with just a name - no time frame。 The name is Jake and there is no time written。Daphne meets Jake and they begin their relationship。 She is wondering if Jake could be the one。 Over the course of this story, we learn about Daphne’s family, friends, past relationships, and a very big secret。 This story was thought-provoking, emotional, and heartbreaking at times。 In short, this book will break your heart and put it back together again。 I loved it。 Thank you to NetGalley and Atria books for the opportunity to read this incredible book! 📚: Expiration Dates by Rebecca Serle⭐️: 4/5I loved this read。 The whole way through, I thought, “I love this book and I know it’s going to emotionally wreck me by the end。”And then the end came and I didn’t feel emotionally wrecked, and I think I wish it did? It was tracking to a solid 5 star until I realized the last two chapters were truly the last two chapters of this book。 Also, start to finish this screams 2000s era rom-com。 I’d be truly shocked if there isn’t an adaptation of this landing 📚: Expiration Dates by Rebecca Serle⭐️: 4/5I loved this read。 The whole way through, I thought, “I love this book and I know it’s going to emotionally wreck me by the end。”And then the end came and I didn’t feel emotionally wrecked, and I think I wish it did? Twisting and UniqueReally interesting premise。 Be prepared to laugh, cry and really struggle through the narrative。 There were times the book was frustrating, but still a fascinating read

Thank you, NetGalley, for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my review。I’m a bit torn about this review。 The story line borders between “basic” and “relatable” and even though I knew where the story was going I delighted in the details。If you enjoyed Serle’s other books, this will be a real treat。 If you love LA you will appreciate the setting。 I otherwise think that the lack of chemistry between the two main characters in this would be “romance novel” is distracting。 I found Daphne very Thank you, NetGalley, for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my review。I’m a bit torn about this review。 The story line borders between “basic” and “relatable” and even though I knew where the story was going I delighted in the details。If you enjoyed Serle’s other books, this will be a real treat。 If you love LA you will appreciate the setting。 I otherwise think that the lack of chemistry between the two main characters in this would be “romance novel” is distracting。 I found Daphne very relatable and so I really enjoyed reading about her dating woes。 I also thought her coworkers were fun characters。I predict that this is going to be a divisive book… people will love it, or really dislike it。 I loved it。 。。。more

Lackluster execution and did not live up to its potential。To me, this book felt like it was aiming for Sally Rooney, but it fell flat for me。 The writing was minimalistic, but lacked depth or originality so the bare bones approach just made the story impossible to get invested in, and the ending was predictable as well。 The tone also really didn't fit since there is a whimsical/magical realism element, but there was no sense of lightness and fun in this book。 There was so much more that could h Lackluster execution and did not live up to its potential。To me, this book felt like it was aiming for Sally Rooney, but it fell flat for me。 The writing was minimalistic, but lacked depth or originality so the bare bones approach just made the story impossible to get invested in, and the ending was predictable as well。 The tone also really didn't fit since there is a whimsical/magical realism element, but there was no sense of lightness and fun in this book。 There was so much more that could have been done with the premise。 Daphne was an uninspired protagonist, and her lack of personality made it hard to see the chemistry with ANY of the men she dates。 It also made it hard to care when there is a more serious twist。 With the book being so short, everything is just sort of skimmed over and quickly summarized。 Lastly, the jumps into the past just make the book feel disjointed, because the chapters are extremely short and it just feels like we are getting the emotionless, detached cliff notes version of everything。 Hopefully this book was a fluke, because I loved In Five Years, really liked The Dinner List and I have One Italian Summer on the TBR cart! 。。。more

This is my first book by this author and I didn't really enjoy it。 The premise was really intriguing to me so I was excited to pick this up but the story itself fell so flat。 For such a short read it was still boring。 (view spoiler)[It's kind of an annoying read because it's pretty obvious by the halfway point that our main character is going to end up with Hugo instead of Jake。 You still have to read almost half of the book of her relationship with Jake instead of expanding on her relationship This is my first book by this author and I didn't really enjoy it。 The premise was really intriguing to me so I was excited to pick this up but the story itself fell so flat。 For such a short read it was still boring。 (view spoiler)[It's kind of an annoying read because it's pretty obvious by the halfway point that our main character is going to end up with Hugo instead of Jake。 You still have to read almost half of the book of her relationship with Jake instead of expanding on her relationship with Hugo。。。 I don't know it was just like why am I reading about this romance knowing it won't last??? Rebecca Searle does it again。 She writes the most thought-provoking books, always putting things into perspective。 I loved this。

Cassie Ball

It was okay。 I enjoyed the concept at first, but the book took a mid-story spin which then took the focus。 It just felt a bit choppy and ultimately fell flat for me。

Reminder: Rebecca Serle never actually writes romance。 Or not if you believe the rules of the genre are static。 And also, this story is so smart。
